Student Athletes for the Month of March 2008

Janae Larson

Freshman, Track & Field

Janae currently leads the NWAACC in the women's 5k, 1500m and 800m. In the first 5k of the season, the freshman shattered the school record by running 18 minutes and one second, which leads the conference by over 90 seconds. Janae also broke the school record in her first 3k of the season by running 10:59.69. At the Mt. Hood Open on March 10, she won her heat of the 1500m by running 4 minutes 51 seconds, and then took second in the 800m dash by running 2:21.09 (8th all-time). Janae improved her 1500m time at the University of Washington Preview by running 4:46.19, which is now 2nd all-time on the top-10 list at Clark. Janae is a solid student and is undecided about her major.

Matt Smith

Track & Field

Matt is one of the most talented runners on the entire team. He has the speed to run on the 4x400m relay and the speed-endurance to run the 5k. In the first meet of the season Matt ran a 10:22 in the 3k Steeplechase at the Linfield Icebreaker. He followed that up by running 2:00.40 in the open 800m dash, and 4:10 in the 1500m dash. He bested that time in the 1500m at the University of Oregon Preview by running 4:09. Matt takes his academics as serious as his running. He puts in equally impressive time in the library and study hall as he does mileage on the streets, both in preparation for running at the next level.
